Artist Statement

Megan’s Current practice explores illustration with the combination of Fine art, exploring materials and their qualities when combined with the paintings. Current works look into aspects of German expressionism and Dadaism, although lightly influenced by these the works main subject comes directly from Megan’s mind. The artist suffers with ptsd from previous traumas. Most paintings will have pupils missing from their eyes to create a disconnect, this creates an unease but something that is relatable to people with trauma or people who feel uncomfortable connecting with eyes.

Nightmares from various stages of life and the way the subconscious chooses them is really fascinating to the artist. Most nights there will be dreams, Megan records these and ensures they are documented to use as bases for her paintings, this recent series looks into escapism and being unable to talk. This project aims to give the artist creative freedom over the past and returns the power to the artist.

Megan’s works are very symbolic, from animals to people, to researching war art and the effects of dazzle art and its impacts, the work is very psychological a need for an understanding, to get people to subconsciously think and consider what the work means just by looking at the image, The response the work is more important than the meaning, which is why the artist won’t always give a description for a work to allow viewers to come to their own conclusion.
